Everyone feels nerves on the big points — even the pros. The difference is that experienced players have a routine that keeps their head clear when the pressure spikes.
Between points, slow down. A consistent routine — adjust your strings, take a breath, picture the shot — resets your focus and stops momentum from running away from you.
Play the point, not the scoreboard. Thinking three games ahead pulls you out of the moment. One ball at a time is a cliché because it works.
Finally, practise pressure. Play tie-breaks, add consequences to drills, compete in club events. Composure is a skill you build on court, not a trait you’re born with.
