If you’re new to the gym, the sheer number of machines and exercises can feel overwhelming. The good news: real strength is built on a handful of fundamental movements. Nail these and everything else gets easier.
1. The Squat — the king of lower-body strength. It builds your legs, glutes and core, and carries over to almost everything you do. Start with bodyweight, then add a goblet or barbell as your form locks in.
2. The Deadlift — the ultimate full-body lift. Done right, it strengthens your posterior chain and teaches you to brace and hinge safely. Keep the bar close, back flat, and drive through your heels.
3–5. Bench Press, Overhead Press and the Row round out the big five. Together they train every major muscle group. Keep the weight honest, the reps clean, and progress week over week — that’s how strength is built.
