Yoga for Beginners: How to Prepare for Your First Class

Stepping onto a yoga mat for the first time can feel intimidating. You might wonder if you are flexible enough, what you should wear, or what the etiquette is inside the studio room. First, remember: yoga is not about being flexible; it is about showing up for yourself.
Clothing & Gear: Wear comfortable, breathable athletic clothes that allow you to move freely. You do not need shoes or socks — yoga is practiced barefoot to maintain grip on the mat. We provide premium organic mats and clean towel service at Serene, so all you need to bring is yourself and a water bottle.
Arrival & Studio Etiquette: Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the class starts. This gives you time to check in at the reception, store your belongings in the lockers, and settle onto your mat. Silence your phone before entering the practice room to preserve the quiet sanctuary for everyone.
Listen to Your Body: During the practice, our instructors will offer modifications for every posture. Never push yourself to the point of pain. If a pose feels too intense, you can rest in Child’s Pose at any time. Your breath is your guide — if you cannot breathe smoothly, slow down.
